Day 12 ~ Oklahoma City and Sapulpa, Oklahoma

Day 12 ~

Take a look at the old route 66 along the right side of the road~

Still there...

We followed Route 66 right into Oklahoma City. We could not pass through and not stop at the Oklahoma National Memorial~A place of hope and memories. Inscribed on the wall...
Those who were killed, those who suffered and those changed forever.
May all who leave here know the impact of violence
May this memorial offer comfort, strength, peace, hope and serenity

On April 19, 1995 a terrorists bomb took the lives of 168 innocent people. Who of us was not touched by this photo, taken by an amateur photographer, of a fireman holding Miss Bailey Almon?
Little Bailey had celebrated her first birthday the day before she lost her life. This photo touch our hearts.

A beautiful pool of water reflects 168 empty chairs on the lawn. The pool is between two walls. One is inscribed with the time of 9:01, which represents the peace that prevailed before the bombing at 9:02 am that day.

Each chair holds a name.
The second was inscribed 9:03, the time lives were "changed forever"

We were very moved at this memorial~
An officer spoke in a whisper and told us about the memorial. There was a hush all around us. Very calming. It was beautiful~ so glad we stopped to remember.

Back in the rv and on the road again...
We went by POPS, a gas station that has this 66 foot tall soda bottle. Pops is known for selling hundreds of flavors and brands of soda pop in its convenience store!

The Round Barn!
Can't you just picture this in years gone by? Love this little town!

Route 66~
Through the towns...
The Rock Cafe~
City of Depew~
Here's Kellyvelle~
Blink and you are through Kelleyville!

REALLY?

We decide on an rv park called ROUTE 66 RV PARK. We also decide on stopping at FREDDIE'S in Sapulpa, OK. for dinner.
While there, our waitress Alanna, tells us some history about the native american tribe the city is named after. In fact, she points out the chief's great, great, granddaughter and her son at the next table over.
Here we are with Michael and Liz, with Liz standing in front of the picture of her Great, great Grandfather! Very sweet people at Freddie's on Route 66!

You have to love a waitress who loves her job! Here's Alanna~ she knows everyone and everything! She said it goes like this....

Telephone
Telegraph
Tell Alanna!!

This is Jim. He stood outside the rv to help Dave back it up to pull out.

This is Jim as Dave does the old pull away and leave em in the dust trick! Ha! We didn't leave him for long!

We head to the Route 66 RV Park and find it to be "AWFUL". REALLY. REALLY. BAD.

NEVER, EVER, AGAIN!!
