Day 12 ~ 2 Route 66 Museums in one day!

Wednesday ~ June 29, 2011

We leave Amarillo, Texas at 9:54 am and travel, as Jim stated, to PLACES UNKNOWN!

Our travels take us through Groom, Texas.

On BIG eye catching attraction is this 19 story cross. It can be seen 20 miles in either direction!

Another is this leaning water tower. It is said to have been purposely placed at a tilt to draw attention to a truck stop, which is now closed.

We make a stop at the Donley County Safety Rest Area Museum!

We are greeted by this sign... Oh yes, we are in Texas!

We park among the big rigs... hey, we think we qualify! Our guys posing in front of our own big rig!

Inside classic signs, like this one from our childhood, hung on the walls.

More signs. Not really much to see here so we get back into the rv and head west again!

We capture the Oklahoma sign right when some other tourist were capturing it too!! Ha! Wow, we just shoot the sign from inside the moving vehicle~ these folks must have all the time in the world to spare if they get out at every state line!

Scenery is really starting to look much more flat!

What do we have here?
Let's go!

Will Rodgers Highway 66!

Diana is ready to see it all!

Doesn't it look inviting?

Jim is taken with this classic chevy!

Kathy and Diana find a booth set up for a photo opt!

Dave likes this little convertible! Go Daddy Go!

We are in Clinton, Oklahoma! Notice the models pointing to our exact locations!

The Highlighted Route!

Dave calls for Kathy and Diana to come over and see what he found!
LIVE! RATTLESNAKES! WHAT? Tells you that you can see live BABY RATTLERS~ right here in this barrel. Dave opens it slowly... and we see rattlers alright~ BABY RATTLES! They got us!

We then follow the path of the museum through a series of decorated rooms. The first being the 1930's. The starting of Route 66!

Next is the 1950's~ Sharing with us the Diners of Route 66!

Dave makes a call!

Kathy serves up some lunch for the guys!

Dave and Diana recreate the kissing booth... oh wait, that's something totally different, isn't it? Oh, well, it was fun anyways!

See Diana?

The 1960's ~ Crazy Man.

The 1970's gives us a look at hotel/motel options while traveling Route 66!

We may be paying a fortune for gas but at least it is available!!

The doors as you leave the Route 66 Museum. These doors lead to the gift shop, don't you know! We all did a little shopping here!
